On Sunday, Stanton Airport will host a Planes & Pumpkins fly-in event. Stanton Airport, located 15 minutes east of Northfield on Highway 19, traditionally has hosted a fly-in event for Father’s Day. However, with the bad weather this year in June, Ken Ewald with the airport said they started talking about doing the event later in the year
“There was, you know, crazy at that time and we ended up with a whole bunch of rain. And that afternoon we said, you know what we ought to do this in the fall and and that’s how we got started with it. So we we sort of paired agriculture, you know, the airports situated in the middle of of of a lot of. Farming and and and livestock activity. And so we said, well, let’s do something around agriculture and flying.” – Ken Ewald on the KYMN Morning Show
There will be various activities, including planes flying into the airport, live music, comfort foods, a pumpkin patch, turkey raffle, and games for the whole family. Tickets are $10 for anyone older than 13. Funds go to maintaining and operating the airport.
Ewald said that the weather this time of year is fantastic for flying:
“It is that this is the perfect flying weather. I mean in in terms of, you know, where pilots, you know, really get excited because it’s so beautiful and it’s still a little bit of heating. And so the glider guys are happy and and certainly the weather is calmed, you know, calm down from earlier this summer. So yeah, so. Yeah, we’re looking forward.”
The event starts Sunday at 9am and goes till 3pm.
