My Fair Lady Opens Tonight

By Logan Wells, News Director | Logan@kymnradio.net

Starting this weekend, the Northfield Arts Guild will be presenting the show My Fair Lady until November 3rd. My Fair Lady is a musical about transformation, gender politics, and class, based on George Bernard Shaw’s play, Pygmalion. The show features many classic songs like I Could Have Danced All Night and Get Me to The Church on Time. The show tells the story of Eliza Doolittle, a young Cockney flower seller, and Henry Higgins, a gruff linguistics professor who is determined to transform her into his idea of a “proper lady.”

On ArtZany last week, Birch Carlson, who is starring as Eliza Doolittle noted the uniqueness of the Arts Guild Theater for the audience.

And the other really wonderful thing about a small theater is it’s so intimate. And you can, I mean, yes, it sometimes feels like the front row is like sitting right on stage with you. But you really feel the audience being there with you because they’re such an important part of a show, because why else are we doing this?” – Birch Carlson on ArtZany

Performances take place in the Arts Guild Theater, located at 411 Third Street West in Northfield. They run for three weekends starting tonight. Friday and Saturday performances start at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday’s performance starts at 2 p.m. The performance on Sunday, October 27th, will also have a post-show discussion.

Tickets are $23 for adults and $18 for students and seniors. You can purchase a ticket on their website, Northfieldartsguild.org or by clicking this link.

You can also listen to last weeks edition of ArtZany were Paula talks with two of the actors and the director about the show.
