During a recent edition of The Northfield Candidate Show, candidate for school board Maggie Epstein, called out fellow candidate Iris Lee for a prior statement she made during the public comments section of the February 14th  2022, Northfield School Board meeting. Lee stated at the meeting that “instead of using science reality-based material schools have been indoctrinating our kids using propaganda, the gender bread person, supplied by the church of trans. Gender ideology has no base in reality…” (Click here to view the recording of the school board meeting)

KYMN has offered an opportunity for all local candidates to speak on The Northfield Candidate Show and last Thursday, during Lee’s interview, she responded to the controversy related to her statements.

“My comments which I aired actually in February of 2022, were they had nothing to do with the district policy toward trans students. They were about the sex ed curriculum. Which was indoctrinating students. With gender ideology, which I think is a religion and that’s why I use that language.” – Iris Lee, on The Northfield Candidate Show

She further stated that she trusted the district to teach her kids, and this felt like profound abuse of that trust. Lee expanded on her statements

“Before I spoke on on the school board, I requested the sex ed material that they were using and it’s black on white and also it’s in the in the form. It’s in the  all the the administrative rules, pronouns and all that. That is, that is. Yeah, that that means that this ideology has been baked into the system.”
