Campaign Finance Rules for Local Candidates:

When Do Campaigns Have To File a Report:

  • An initial report must be filed within 14 days after the candidate or committee receives contributions or make disbursements of more than $750 in a calendar year.
  • A subsequent report must be filed after the initial report, 10 days before the general election.
  • No report is necessary for campaigns when they receive or spend less than $750 in a calendar year.

What do Campaigns Have To Report:

  • Campaigns must list the total amount of all the donations received in the filing period (cash & in-kind)
  • Contributions from a single source exceeding $100 must be listed in a filing report, including the name, address, employer, amount, and contribution date.
  • All disbursements, including the amount, date, and purpose, must be reported.
