Northfield Area Fire Chief Reminds Residents of Burn Restrictions

By Logan Wells, News Director | Logan@kymnradio.net

Northfield area Fire Chief and Fire Code Official Tom Nelson is reminding the residents of both Northfield and Dundas, that burning leaves is against both cities’ respective ordinances. Instead, residents should take their leaves to the Northfield Compost Site at 1801 Armstrong Road. The compost site is open Tuesday through Friday from 2pm to sunset, Saturdays from 8am to 5pm, and Sundays from 12pm to 5pm, and is free for Northfield residents to use.

If the Northfield Area Fire & Rescue Services is notified or dispatched for burning leaves in city limits, the property owner will receive a response fee invoice. For residents who live outside of the cities, due to drought conditions, the entire state is under burn restrictions, however, you can still apply for a burn permit. You can find more information and apply for a burn permit by going to the Northfield Area Fire Department website and clicking burn permits under the resources tab. https://www.nafrs.org/burn-permit
