In the last week, the Salvation Army’s Mini Red Kettles have gone out across Rice County. The mini kettles look like the traditional Salvation Army kettles but much smaller and sit on top of the counters of many different businesses. Last year, the new counter kettles raised $4,000 in donations, including $500 during Winter Walk. The mini-kettles are in 35+ different businesses around Northfield and will be up through November and December.
The Salvation Army will be hosting its Red Kettle Kickoff Event on November 10th from 2 to 4 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Faribault. The event will feature music from the Lake Landers Barbershop A Cappella group, a silent auction, and a pie social. Free-will donations are requested.
The Rice County Salvation Army is still looking for volunteers to help with bell ringing. The first shift of bell ringing starts on November 15th. There are 21 full days of bell ringing. In a day, there are four shifts, each 2 hours long. Locations for bell ringing in Northfield are Family Fare and Cub Foods, in Faribault at Fareway, Hy-Vee, and Walmart, and in Lonsdale at Makenthunes.
Money raised through the Red Kettle Campaign stays locally in Rice County, supporting programs that provide food, shelter, clothing, financial assistance, and various youth, seniors, and veterans services.
