Northfield will have a new Mayor in January. Erica Zweifel was elected Mayor on Tuesday, and KYMN had an opportunity to talk with her about the results of the election and her vision for Northfield.
One focus area for Zweifel is on communication and engagement with the public, in particular, she see’s the State of the City event as an opportunity to better engage with the public:
“I’m trying to get a sense of where people are at and how they want to engage, where their readiness to engage. There’s a lot of frustration and concern right now in the city” – Northfield Mayor-Elect Erica Zweifel on the KYMN Morning Show
She also expressed interest in having one-on-one and small group meetings to hear people’s concerns. Another focus area for Zweifel was on controlling taxes and spending. Zweifel stated that she would like to see both an increase in the tax base and looking to save money where possible.
When asked if she thought the council could work together well, she believed so:
“I just expect great things, we you it was an interesting campaign cycle. So there’s so much on the Council’s plate right now. We were (the candidates)… a lot of us were going to meetings were meeting with people about all of the the projects that are on the plate right now, and so I feel like I got to know all of the candidates much better this campaign cycle than any other campaign cycle, so. I feel really good moving forward about the relationship that people have” – Northfield Mayor-Elect Erica Zweifel on the KYMN Morning Show
In a statement given to KYMN Radio, Zweifel’s opponent, Ruth Dahl wished the new mayor well:

We worked a lot of the the town and my I just can’t say thank you enough to all those people that believed in me. To help us, you know, get Northfield spending back in line and and watch out for the taxpayers in Northfield. Again, my sincere thanks.
