Something Rotten Musical Opens Tonight at the High School

By Logan Wells, News Director | Logan@kymnradio.net

Tonight is the opening of the Northfield High School’s show Something Rotten. Set in the 1590s, the show tells the story of Nick and Nigel Bottom, who are desperate to write a hit play but are stuck in the shadow of the Renaissance rock star known as The Bard. To have their first hit, Nick and Nigel write the world’s very first musical.

When asked to describe the show, Avery Parker one of the leads in the show, said:

“I always start with definitely weird but fun. Very fun. There are lots of different things going on at the same time. And like Emmett said, it really is about two brothers versus Shakespeare There is also some brother versus brother as well, and maybe writers versus the world. And all of those different kind of conflicts”. – Avery Parker on ArtZany

Director Bob Gregory-Bjorklund noted that this is the first musical performance the High School has hosted in many years.

“I want to give you some, some some perspective here. So Noah’s not been in the musical and of the five of you who are in in here in the studio, only one of you has been in the musical at the high school….. in 2020, we ended up doing a show outside in 2021. That was the last time we did a musical. – Director Bob Gregory-Bjorklund on ArtZany

The show starts at 7:30pm on Friday and Saturday nights and will run this weekend and next weekend. They will also have a manatee show and their last performance on Sunday, November 17th at 2pm. Tickets are $9 for adults and $7 for students and seniors and are available at the door, the box office will open 30 minutes before. The performance takes place in the Northfield High School Auditorium.

Last week on ArtZany, Paula talked with Bob and five of the student actors in the show. You can listen to the full show here.
