Today is the last day to register for the Northfield Rotary Clubs Turkey Trot and be guaranteed a 2024 T-shirt.

Now in its 24th year, the 5K run/walk is a Thanksgiving tradition for Northfield households, an unofficial homecoming for the 1,000-plus folks who want to connect with old friends and neighbors. The Turkey Trot gives people an opportunity to express their gratitude by running or walking for a good cause. Event organizer Scott Richardson described the atmosphere of the event:

“And it’s such a collegial atmosphere. But, you know, you’ll see people. Who run into people that graduated from high school with, went to, went to elementary school with and I always said it’s kind of Facebook before Facebook” – Event Organizer Scott Richardson on the KYMN Morning Show

The Turkey Trot will begin at Carleton College’s Weitz Center at 9 am on Thanksgiving. The course then winds through the northeast section of town,

The cost of the race is $30. Runners and walkers can sign up online or in person at the Weitz Center on the day of the race, beginning at 8 a.m.

Runners and walkers are encouraged to bring their dogs to the event. Kids in strollers are welcome to ride along with their parents.

The funds from the event go to help fund the rotary’s exchange program, which Scott stated was important for better understanding others:

“Jim mentioned youth exchange and that’s huge for us. So, we think you know peace is achieved through Cross cultural communication and =but we can build goodwill and better understanding that way.” Event Organizer Scott Richardson on the KYMN Morning Show

You can register online at: https://northfieldrotary.org/page/turkey-trot  to get a 2024 T-shirt; the deadline is the end of today.
