And in a rare scheduling quirk, both the Northfield City Council and the Northfield School Board will meet tonight in their respective meeting places, the Council Chambers in City Hall, and the boardroom of the Northfield School District office building.
The City Council will have an especially busy night, as the members will meet in joint session with the Rice County Board of Commissioners to discuss tax abatement issues related to the former Northfield News building that has been purchased by Loon Liquors.
Among the items on the Council’s regular meeting agenda are the creation of a Tax Increment Financing district to assist the construction of the new Archer building, advertising for bids on the construction of the proposed Drinking Water Treatment Plant, and the approval of the abstract of votes cast locally in last week’s election.
Meanwhile, the Northfield School Board will go about the business of approving the results of last week’s election as well, and with all three questions from the bond resolution for the renovation for Northfield High School passed, the board will discuss the next steps.
The School Board will always invite public comments from those who live in the Northfield School District. Time for those comments is scheduled at the beginning of each meeting. Registration is required to address the School Board. Those wishing to do so may sign up beginning at 5:30 p
The city and the council, meanwhile, will also invite opinions and comments from the public. Anyone who wishes to do so may talk with the council on any topic they see fit during the 6pm listening session prior to the meeting. Participants in the listening session are asked to please not comment on a topic on the agenda, and instead are asked to stay and make a public comment when that agenda item is discussed during the regular meeting. Those wishing to voice their opinions without addressing the council should email their councilors directly or post a comment through the eComment button on the “Agendas” section of the City Council website.
Both meetings will begin tonight at 6:00.
