At the October 28th, Northfield School Board Meeting, the Interim Principal of Spring Creek Elementary School, Tania Will, gave the school showcase presentation, the last in a series of presentations from all of the district’s different principles.
One of the highlights that Will shared was the upward trajectory of the MCA test scores in reading and math. Overall, Spring Creek’s MCA scores were better than the state average, and they saw improvements in each grade level.
Will also noted an increase in satisfaction in parent surveys. Spring Creek has focused on increasing communication with parents and families. Additionally, 97% of parents attended conferences this year, a number that Will noted was really exciting.
“You know, prior to school actually starting. So that’s kind of impressive to have that high of a number. We’re hoping also that in the next couple of weeks we can touch base again, all all of the families were offered an in person conference and if it works better for their families to do a zoom conference or a phone call, they could do that too.” – Interim Principal of Spring Creek Tania Will at the 10/28/2024 Northfield School Board Meeting.
Going forward, Spring Creek will have similar focus areas for this school year to the district’s other elementary schools. First, the new Bridges Math Curriculum will be adopted. The curriculum piloted in some of the district’s classrooms last year is now being implemented across the entire district. Another focus for the school is on the training of teachers, both in the new math curriculum but also in the Science of Reading training required by the READ Act, which was passed by the MN legislature in 2023.
