Last Day To Register & Donate To Operation Joy

Today is the deadline to register for the Community Action Center’s (CAC) Operation Joy. Operation Joy has been a program in Northfield for over 50 years and works to provide gifts for every child in Northfield. Initially the program consisted of people donating physical toys; however, Project Manager with the CAC, Lisa Percy, noted that changed with the pandemic:

COVID stopped all of that, and we realized that actually, you know, we all have those moments where you find the perfect gift for someone. And giving that gift is almost more exciting than receiving a gift.” – Lisa Percy from the CAC on the KYMN Morning Show

Instead, Operation Joy gives families a gift card to Target to select a gift, a handmaid quilt, and a book choice from Content Bookstore. Percy noted the gift cards have succeeded since the pandemic because donations in the past had given few gift options for teenagers.

“If you’ve shop for a teenager anytime in your life, you know that that’s that’s pretty hard to do and they’re not the the people that you think of when you go shopping for gifts.”  – Lisa Percy from the CAC on the KYMN Morning Show

To register for the program, go to communityactioncenter.org and click the Operation Joy button on their home page or click here.

The CAC is also looking to have all donations for Operation Joy in today. While there are still opportunities to donate later, mainly at the Fire Department Spaghetti Dinner, the deadline helps the CAC plan ahead as much as possible. You can also donate on the CAC’s website.

The program’s goal this year is to help 500 families or about 1,000 children.
