The Northfield City Council meets tonight for a Work Session Meeting as the council begins to wrap up business for this year. At work sessions, the council takes no votes or actions on items but instead hears in-depth presentations from staff and holds longer discussions about larger projects in the city. Four items are on this week’s agenda.
First is a discussion about Emergency Flood Management Response, Future Improvements, and equipment.
That will be followed by a review of amendments to the Cannabis-Related Ordinances. With legal sales of Cannabis beginning in January 2025, Northfield, like other Minnesota cities, is trying to pass a legal framework before the start of the new year to have local regulations in place.
Afterward, engineers with Bolten & Menk will present on the infrastructure planning for water and sewer in the Northwest Industrial Development area. Expansion of current water and sewer facilities will be necessary to develop the area into an industrial park.
The meeting will conclude with a discussion of the 2025 Budget and Tax Levy, which is set to be approved at the December 3rd meeting. This is one of the last times the council will provide directions to city staff on drafting a final budget.
Since the meeting is a work session, no public comments will be taken at the meeting. However, you can contact your councils via email or the Ecomment option. You can email the council by clicking here. You can watch the meetings online here.
The meeting starts at 6pm in the City Hall Council Chambers. After tonight the city council only has two more meetings planned for 2024, with meetings on November 26th and December 3rd.
