Northfield Turkeys Pardoned At The White House Last Week

President Joe Biden pardoned two turkeys raised in the Northfield area last Monday at the White House. John Zimmerman raised the turkeys, and his son Grant, also a student at Spring Creek Elementary, traveled to the White House for the ceremony. 

Several local elected officials, including State Representative Kristi Pursell and members of the Northfield City Council, were also invited to the event. Councilor Kathleen Holmes described the event:

“I mean, I think for me it’s a once you know, I’ve I’ve never been to the White House, so it’s exciting. But also to have my little boys. Here and to be able to support Northfield, I mean we got a good shout out and just, I don’t know, being at the heart. Of the nation and and where it all happens, it’s it’s just it’s an exciting, exciting place.” – Northfield City Councilor Kathleen Holmes, audio sent to KYMN Radio.

With the Marine Corps band in the background, Councilor Jessica Peterson White noted how honored Northfield to be represented at the event. 

“It was also just really, really cool to see at our very own Rice County (Dakota County) turkeys represented with John. Berman and his family, bringing their turkeys all the way to Washington, DC, I thought Peach and Blossom did a great job. They were really  They gobbled right on cue, and they were extremely photogenic, really very impressive.” –

FiftyNorth – The Band at the Grand

Saturday, March 15, 2025 @ 10:30 am – 12:30 pm – Friends and Foundation of the Northfield Public Library is sponsoring the library Puzzle Playoff on Saturday, March 25, from 10:30-12:30. The event will be held on ZOOM so that participants can compete from their favorite puzzle making spot and with as many as 6 puzzling partners at any one time. Teams can register here.
