Community members are invited to a presentation on Wednesday, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Northfield High School, to learn about construction projects scheduled to happen in Northfield in the next 5 years and give input.
This event will allow community members to learn about the city’s decision-making process, goals, and timeline related to 2025-2029 construction projects for street improvements and bike and pedestrian paths. City staff will give a 30-minute presentation. Afterward, attendees can ask questions and review information about the projects at stations set up in the lower cafeteria. Projects represented at the event will include Bridge Square Improvement, 2025 Street Improvements, and Mill Towns State Trail.
“Inviting the entire community to see the 5-year plan is new and we hope to continue doing this going forward,” said Dave Bennett, the city Public Works Director. “We’ll still do our regular communications such as sending out letters and holding neighborhood meetings that we’ve done for each project in the past. This is an opportunity for everyone to see the big picture.”
This event lays out what’s known as a capital improvement plan (CIP), which is a 5-year plan that looks at the current and long-term needs of the city, such as the repair, maintenance, replacement or new construction of streets, parks and facilities. It establishes and prioritizes the projects and gives an estimate of their costs and funding sources and construction timeline. Capital projects are different than operating budgets because they typically represent large financial obligations that span more than one year.
The event takes place at the Northfield High School, Wednesday night from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.
