One of Northfield’s most beloved traditions is Thursday evening: Winter Walk. Now in its 26th year, the event starts at 4:30 p.m. and goes until 9 p.m., with businesses open downtown, Santa, and other fun events. This week, KYMN will highlight some of the different people, organizations, and events at Winter Walk.
One of those groups is the Bows, Strings, and Contentment Orchestra, which will present a free concert at the Grand during the evening. The group is a local orchestra open to adult students looking for an opportunity to learn and play together. It has now grown to a 29-piece orchestra, and this is the second year they will host a concert like this. Here’s is the orchestra’s conductor, Laura Geissler:
“So we have A set of four orchestral pieces for the first set, the second set. We have a string quintet that’s going to perform. We have a solo that’s going to happen and then we have some youth who are kids of our orchestra members who are going to play some music along with their family members. And it is just going to be fantastic. Some special Christmas music by our families with their kids.” Orchestra Conductor Laura Geissler on ArtZany
Geissler also noted that a major part of their performances are interactive and that the group will have a section on Sing-Along Carols.
Dinner at The Grand will start at 5pm and the Kitchen will remain open till 8pm. Music from the orchestra starts at 7pm. Free will donations to the orchestra are welcome.
