One of Northfield’s most beloved traditions is Thursday evening: Winter Walk. Now in its 26th year, the event starts at 4:30 p.m. and goes until 9 p.m., with businesses open downtown, Santa, and other fun events. This week, KYMN will highlight some of the different people, organizations, and events at Winter Walk.
Of course, some of Winter Walk’s main attractions are the businesses along Division Street. Most companies are hosting different deals and events, including a book signing of the Ultimate Cookie Book at Content Bookstore, deals, and classical guitar music at the Rare Pair, and pictures with The Grinch at Community Resource Bank.
However, Winter Walk also includes businesses and organizations that are not downtown; one of those is HomeTown Credit Union which is sponsoring the Bridge Square Christmas tree. Here’s HomeTown’s Marketing Director Zandra Bornhauser:
“You know one of our core values is community and going beyond just the financial services that we provide and this is a a great event for us to get out and touch a lot of people that turn out.” – HomeTown Credit Union’s Zandra Bornhauser on the KYMN Morning Show
Another major sponsor is Hosanna Church, which supports the Santa House on Bridge Square; Pastor Dean Swenson noted the important impact community events like this can have:
“Reality is, for some people, it’s not. Some people are isolated. Some people are alone, some people don’t connect with other people. These kind of events bring people out and it gives them an opportunity to rub shoulders with people, smile at people, feel the joy of Christmas.” – Pastor of Hosanna Church Dean Swenson on the KYMN Morning Show
During Winter Walk, at the History Center will be the Historic Northfield ornaments and the James-Younger Gang Raider Renactors. The VFW will be selling Brats, Hot dogs, and other food. The funds raised go to support veterans programs in Minnesota and Northfield.
