With the beginning of the new year, now is the time that Northfield Hospital and Clinics CEO Steve Underdahl is set to retire after 11 years as the leader of the local hospital. Underdahl cited many accomplishments in his career but cited that the most important factor for anyone in healthcare was resilience:
And what I told a group of people recently, as I think the key attribute for people in healthcare, whether you’re going to be a doctor or an administrator or nurse is resiliency because you have to be able to roll with the punches because there is not going. If you’re somebody that needs stability and predictability, This ain’t your gig.” – Outgoing Northfield Hospital and Clinics CEO Steve Underdahl on the KYMN Morning Show
The new CEO, Zander Abbott, is scheduled to start on Monday. Abbott grew up in Northfield and, for the last 11 years, has been an administrator in Portland for MaineHealth Systems. NH+C’s board was impressed with Abbott’s communication and relationship-building skills, his ability to work effectively with medical staff and board members, and his ability to contribute as a community leader. Underdahl praised Abbott:
“So you guys are trading up and he’s a young man, you know, I think I got boots older than him, but I think it’s exactly. The right thing for this moment, and I’m really excited about him coming.” – Outgoing Northfield Hospital and Clinics CEO Steve Underdahl on the KYMN Morning Show
If you would like to thank Underdahl or say goodbye, the hospital will be hosting a going away party for Underdahl tomorrow in the Northfield Hospital Conference Center from 11am to 1pm.
