Northfield Area Fire Chief Tom Nelson is reminding everyone to change your smoke alarm batteries now and not at 2am, here’s Nelson after responding to several calls this week because of old smoke alarms and Carbon Monoxide alarms:
What I’ve said to a couple. It’s not 2 in the morning. We’re all really lucky, right that this didn’t happen during the middle of the night. We had another one of them yesterday; something was beeping we couldn’t find. It was one of those plug-in CRO detectors, and it was behind a dresser.” – Fire Chief Tom Nelson on the KYMN Morning Show
Nelson noted that most smoke detectors are designed only to last 10 years. He recommends that everyone take an inventory of the smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in their homes:
“In so do that little inventory, It’s like, where did that one that we got for Christmas 11 years ago, go? Because those will go off at 10 years, and they will let you know and it will be at 2:00 in the morning and then you’ll be awake and mad. And if you can’t find it, we’ll call up and have to come help you.” – Fire Chief Tom Nelson on the KYMN Morning Show
