Dundas City Council Meets Tonight; Will Hear Design Proposals for A New Boat Launch at Mill Park

By Logan Wells, News Director | Logan@kymnradio.net

The Dundas City Council meets tonight, there are two main items on the agenda. First, we are considering adding a canoe and kayak landing site on the west side of the Cannon River. City staff have received requests for adding a second boat launch in part because the current boat launch is difficult to reach and a more challenging place for new kayakers to start from. The current boat launch is located off of the island on Hester Street.

Furthermore, Farmstead Bikes, which uses the area to launch boats, is looking at expanding its operations in the area,a and with the expansions of trails in the area, increased river traffic is expected.

City staff have begun working with the State Department of Natural Resources, which handles permitting on the river. The City Engineer will present two options to the council tonight to hear feedback on the preliminary designs. Both designs are in Mill Park, located on Railway Street across from City Hall. The council is being asked to indicate a preference of design so engineers can begin drafting final plans and cost estimates. The project is expected to take place in 2026.
