Kevin Dahle, one of the Social Studies teachers at the Northfield High School, was recognized by the Northfield Veterans of Foreign Wars in December, receiving the Citizenship Educator Teacher Award. The award recognizes a teacher who has worked to promote democracy and government education within the school. Here’s Bruce Stowe with the VFW:

“That’s a really special award, and especially for Mr. Dahle, because of the work that he’s done for Many years for the Northfield High School and all the students that he’s taught. This is an award that is sponsored by the VFW and the individual the teacher is nominated by a fellow staff member or someone in the staff of the school.” – Bruce Stowe, Northfield VFW Post Adjutant

Dahle has also received the Teacher of the Year Award from the VFW’s First District, representing 28 communities in Southern Minnesota. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Matt Hillmann said about Dahle:

“And no shock that he was honored by the VFW for his inspiration of our students related to civics. Kevin’s just an exceptional teacher, an even better human being, and we’re so grateful for the contributions that he’s made, not only to our school district, but the entire community, over his decades of dedicated teaching here in Northfield.” – Superintendent of Schools Dr. Matt Hillmann, KYMN News Audio

Dahle is not the only high school teacher recently recognized, was science teacher Jody Saxton-West who received the Region 1AA Fine Arts Distinguished Service Award for her contribution to fine arts in Southern Minnesota. Hillmann said that Saxton-West was well deserving of the award:

“So congratulations to Jody, if you know Jody, she has one speed and it’s go and it’s go fast. And so we’re so proud of the work that Jody has done, you know, thousands of kids in this school district have had a very positive impact in some way by connecting with Jody Saxton-West, so proud of her work and her contributions to the community and to the region. And my only question is how do they not give her this award sooner? – Superintendent of Schools Dr. Matt Hillmann on the KYMN Morning Show

Congratulations to both teachers and thank you for your commitment to students in Northfield.
