Clean River Partners and Northfield city staff will hold their very popular annual seminar teaching people how to plant a rain garden on March 6th from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Northfield High School.
Participants will learn about the benefits of rain gardens and how to plan them and the best ways to install them. Subjects covered during the seminar will include where on your property to put a rain garden, how to choose the right plants, and information about the city and county cost-share programs that exist to help pay for rain gardens.
In a statement released by the City of Northfield, James McDermott, the water quality technician for the City of Northfield said, encouraged people to p[lant a rain garden due to their deep-rooted native plants that beautify will beautify a lawn as well as both capture and clean stormwater before it enters the local rivers and ponds.
The City of Northfield and the Dakota County Soil & Water Conservation District will reimburse homeowners for part of the cost of installing a rain garden.
This workshop is free, but participants must sign up on the Northfield Community Education page on the Northfield School District website; search for “Plant a Rain Garden.”
