Candidate slate set for township elections 1/30/25

The ballots are now set in Rice and, presumably, Dakota Counties for the Minnesota township elections, which will be held on March 11th.

Write-in votes will settle who takes at least two open seats on Rice County’s townships boards, as no affidavits for candidacy were filed for Northfield Township treasurer, or to fill the term of the remaining year of the term for the Morristown Township clerk.

The treasurer’s seat, a two-year term, is up in all every township except Forest Township where the treasurer is appointed, rather than elected.

In addition to two open seats on the ballot, Erin Township voters will decide whether or not to appoint, rather than elect both the town clerk and treasurer. Forest is currently the only township to appoint its treasurer, four Rice County townships appoint their clerk.

One supervisor seat, set for three-year terms, is up in each township.

The deadline for voters to pre-register to vote is on February 18th. Paper applications must be received by the Elections Office at the Rice County Government Services Building by 5pm. Voters registering online through the Minnesota Office of the Secretary of State’s secure website will have an 11:59 p.m. deadline.

Residents can also vote absentee beginning Friday, February 7th and running through Friday, March 7th at the Rice County Government Services Building. The office is open weekdays from 8am to 4:30pm, except on Presidents Day, which is Monday, February 17th. Voters can also cast an absentee ballot from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, March 8 and from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday, March 10 at the Government Services Building.

Below is a full listing of all Rice County candidates, as well as poll hours and meeting times in Rice County townships. No candidate information for the Dakota County Townships of Eureka, Greenvale, Sciota or Waterford has been made available as of yet on the Minnesota Secretary of State website.

Township elections and their annual meetings are Tuesday, March 11.
