Runway Revival Seeking Artists; The Deadline is February 28th to Apply

By Logan Wells, News Director | Logan@kymnradio.net

The Community Action Center is seeking artists for the Runway Revival Fashion Show. This event is not your typical fashion show, as it celebrates the creative talents of local artists who have designed wearable pieces using 90% recycled, upcycled, and reused materials.

Here’s Anika Rychner with the CAC:

“So Runway Revival it’s a fashion show, but it’s local people, not necessarily professional artists at all, but local creative people who have made pieces to be worn in the runway, out of recycled their upcycled materials. And so it’s really a blend of things that could be worn again. Or things that make a statement like really wild things made out of pop can tabs.” – Anika Rychner, Senior Director of the CAC on the KYMN Morning Show

In addition to a stunning fashion show, Runway Revival is also a fundraiser for the Community Action Center and an opportunity for the community to learn about the many environmentally sustainable efforts of the CAC in housing, recovery, and food insecurity. Rychner says that this fundraiser is deeply in line with the CAC’s mission:

“It’s a fundraiser for CAC but it’s also I think very in line with our mission. Our mission is to create a healthy, caring, and just community, and we think about a healthy, caring and just community that really works well with climate justice, and CAC actually does a lot of cool things to keep food out of landfills and to keep clothing out of land.” – Anika Rychner, Senior Director of the CAC on the KYMN Morning Show

This year due to overwhelming interest, arts submissions are now open and will close on February 28th.

The CAC says that the goal is to be create and fun and that they are looking for:

  1. Pieces that are intended to be worn again for everyday use
  2. Pieces that make an artistic statement about the environment but wouldn’t be worn for everyday use
  3. NEW THIS YEAR – Pieces that reflect the theme for this year. The theme is garden.
  4. OR Any combination from above!

In the past, the CAC has had between 25 and 30 artists at the show. You can see pictures of past artists on the CAC’s website.

One of the volunteers helping organize the event, Anjelica Linder, noted the important role that the CAC plays in the community:

“Since COVID right, the needs have gone higher and I don’t think has slowed down. Is not going to, and the value of this organization the way they treat people that goes there, is amazing.” – Anjelica Linder, volunteer with the CAC on the KYMN Morning Show

Among the many programs the Community Action Center maintains includes three food shelf locations, operates and supports housing projects, Operation Joy, and many more programs.
