This week, the Northfield School Board adopted next year’s academic calendar. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Matt Hillmann said they were making the calendar later this year to collect more feedback on some ideas they have experimented with in the last few years.
One of the most significant changes is the ending of the practice of E-Learning Day on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Hillmann said that while the day was not a failure, it was unsuccessful enough to continue going forward. Now, the day will be a regular part of the break.
Hillmann noted that there is a unique day on May 1st when the Middle School and High School will host the Big Nine Musical Festival. Here’s Hillmann at the School Board
“Some people aren’t aware that the Big 9 conference, that we are part of, has the longest consecutive running Athletic Conference music festival in the country. And so for decades and decades, all of the Big 9 conference schools gather at one of their member high schools. The choir, orchestra, and band all come together for a day of learning performance. A little bit of competition, friendly competition, I would say. And next year is the year that Northfield is scheduled to hold that. It’s a resource-intense day.” – Superintendent of Schools Dr. Matt Hillman at the 1/27/2025 School Board Meeting
Since the Middle and High Schools will be busy with the conference, High School students will have the day off, Middle School Students will have an E-Learning Day, and the rest of the district will have a regular school day.
Hillmann did note that next year’s calendar has Halloween on a Friday and that there are two full weeks for winter break.
