In January, it was announced that the Northfield Arts Guild had signed a two-year lease with the City of Northfield for the 411 Water Street building. The space is a 3,000 sq/ft shared studio space that the guild is looking to use for a unique opportunity for emerging visual artists to create and grow in a dedicated artistic environment. The Arts Guild is now accepting applications for the space in the building. Here is Executive Director of the Guild Micheal Johnson describing the space:
“So it’s, a lot of small little rooms, but perfect for artists to be able to have a space to work and to work as a community. And so the focus for that is really going to be young emerging artists. We want to support people who maybe don’t have the resources or ability to have a space of their own, but would be interested in collaborating. And so, yeah, an incubator space for young artists…. We don’t have artists solidified yet, but we definitely will have probably a dozen small spaces, And then there’s a couple of bigger rooms that I think we could make more like a coworking space.” – Micheal Johnson, Executive Director of the Northfield Arts Guild on the KYMN Morning Show
Johnson said they are looking for new arts to be able to ues this space:
“Were looking for people who maybe have never had a space of their own. Working out of their kitchen table.” – Michael Johnson, Executive Director of the Northfield Arts Guild on the KYMN Morning Show
The space offers a mix of small semi-private spaces to rent. Johnson stated that they are also looking to possibly host classes or other drop-in events at the site and a possible store in the future. The space is available to rent for $100 per month, preferences will be given to emerging visual artists who have never had the opportunity to rent a studio before. Note that the spaces do not come equipped with furniture or Wifi.
Applications close on February 23rd. Johnson says he would like to have artists begin moving in at the beginning of March.
