In the last month, the Director of Library Services, Natalie Draper, has received several questions about the Northfield Public Library’s privacy policy. Draper said that they take patrons privacy incredibly seriously:
“We do not ask for information we do not need and we do not store information that we do not need.” – Natalie Draper, Director of Library Services on the KYMN Morning Show
Draper noted that their privacy policy is backed up by State Law, and information can only be released by court order.
“We will not disclose the books you have checked out, whether you have used a computer, whether you’ve been there or a meeting room, or what you been searching for or asking about again without a court order.” – Natalie Draper, Director of Library Services on the KYMN Morning Show
One exception to the policy is that a family member or other person who resides with the patron may pick up material on a person’s behalf. However, library patrons can also state that they would like to have no one pick up items on their behalf.
Draper stated that they use a software to wipe records on each computer after they have been used.
