After nearly a decade, the beloved Aquatic Pets Plus in Downtown Northfield closed its doors this past year. However, the owners sold the store, Natalie Barnes. Barnes grew up shopping at Aquatic Pets and was determined to make sure Northfield still had an aquatic pets store and after a few months of consideration, she purchased the store and renamed it Indoor Fins. Here’s Barnes on KYMN:
“It used to be over on Highway 3 when it belonged to the first owner, Liz and I was a small child going with my mother to that store…. Liz was a kind of a core childhood memory for me and I kind of want to be that for some other people now.” – Natalie Barnes, Co-Owner of Indoor Fins on the KYMN Morning Show
Over Christmas, Barnes reorganized the store, but she stated that an true changes to Indoor Fins will be incremental and that she is working to get to know her customers:
“So there are people like me who go kind of all out and probably have 10 tanks, and we call it multi-Tank syndrome. Once you get going, you just keep buying up new tanks. And I get a lot of beginners. I get people that walk. They’re like, I kind of want to fish. What do I need? And I’m still working on my answer to that question because it’s like, ah, do we have an hour?” – Natalie Barnes, Co-Owner of Indoor Fins on the KYMN Morning Show
