The Northfield City Council meets tonight, the main item on the agenda is the 2024 Annual Report from the Police Chief. The report will include information such as number and type of calls, an overview of traffic stops and crime, and other noteworthy events. The report shows that there has been a 6% decrease in the number of police calls from 2023 to 2024. In 2024, the Northfield Police Department responded to 27,987 calls. However, traffic stops have been increasing since 2020, and 2024 was a 5-year high for the number of traffic stops, which was 4,482. Will have a future news story covering the story more fully in-depth.

Afterwards, the council will take up the consent agenda for the meeting, the consent agenda is the only item up for a vote at the meeting. The council will then hear a presentation from the City Attorney regarding legal issues for counselors including open meeting laws, data practices, and conflicts of interest. Also during the meeting, the Mayor, each City Councilor, and the City Administrator will give their respective reports.

The public is welcome to attend in person or watch online. To watch online, go to northfieldmn.gov and click the “Agenda & Minutes” button in the middle of the home page. From there, find tonight’s meeting date to watch, as well as a copy of the agenda and other meeting documents.
