The Northfield City Council meets tonight for a work session meeting. The meeting is focused on creating the Strategic Plan for the city. The City Council started the strategic planning process at the January work session meeting with a training about responsible governance. The city has been collecting public input for the plan through February and early March. Strategic Plans are plans made by the city for the next 3 to 5 years and identify the focus areas for work and projects for city staff and the city council. City Administrator Ben Martig described the Strategic Plan as one of the main tools for the City Council to set the direction of the city:
“the Council really is there to Set the direction of the city. Generally working on city policy. ‘What do we want to?’ … Giving that clear guidance to the staff, primarily through a strategic plan and then other legislative decisions they make because they act as a body, that’s their authority really is in that Council chambers and then they direct me as their primary staff person.” – Northfield City Adminstator Ben Martig on the KYMN Morning Show
Tonight’s meeting is set to take place in the 2nd Floor Training Room of City Hall. Meetings in the training room are usually not available to watch live, but a recording will be available afterwards.
At work session meetings, no votes are taken by the council, instead, there will be longer presentations and discussions scheduled. Furthermore, since the meeting is a work session, no public comments will be taken at the meeting. However, you can contact your councils via email or the Ecomment option. You can email the council by clicking here.
To view the agenda, go to northfieldmn.gov and click the “Agenda & Minutes” button in the middle of the home page. From there, find tonight’s meeting date to watch the recording, as well as a copy of the agenda and other meeting documents.

Tonight’s meeting starts at 6pm, in the Training Room of City Hall.
