Community Action Center’s Largest Food Fund Drive Continues Through The End of March

By Logan Wells, News Director | Logan@kymnradio.net

For the month of March, the Community Action Center (CAC) has been working to collect funds and food as part of the MN Food Share March Campaign. March is the month when the CAC collects the most funds and items for its food shelf. From now until the end of the month, an anonymous donor will match $5,000 worth of donations. Anika Rychner with the CAC noted the impact the March fundraiser has on the whole the year’s operations:

“In Minnesota, food share is coming up in March. So that’s our biggest food fund drive of the year. It actually brings in donations that fund about half of the food that we give throughout the year and we serve almost 16,000 people with food in a year.” – Anika Rychner, Senior Director of the CAC on the KYMN Morning Show

The CAC noted the food shelf’s important role, with 1 in 5 residents in Rice County struggling with food insecurity in the last year, which includes 5,700 children. Anjelica Linder, also with the CAC, noted the important role that the organization plays in the community:

“The needs have gone higher, and I don’t think there has been a slowdown. It is not going to. And the value of this organization, the way they treat people that go there, is amazing.” – Anjelica Linder, with the CAC on the KYMN Morning Show

To donate you can go to https://communityactioncenter.org/donate/ or you can mail a check to:

1651 Jefferson Pkwy, Ste HS-200

Northfield, MN 55057

And then add “Food Shelf” or “Food share” to the memo line.

The CAC also accepts food donations; some of the items include shelf-stable proteins, canned or frozen vegetables, grains, and other household items like diapers, baby wipes, and personal items. You can find the full list of donation items available on the CAC’s website by clicking the “food share button” on the homepage. The CAC food shelf is open to collect donations from 9am to 4pm on weekdays.

The CAC noted that they will, of course, take donations and help from volunteers any time of the year.
