People who walk or drive around Downtown Northfield may have noticed a new sign outside the site of the former Archer House. On the sign is a website showing some updates on the design of the buildings and what amenities will be in the building. Here is the developer of the site, Chris Kennelly:
“So it’ll still be commercial main. We’re very excited that we’ve got a great restaurant user who wants to take the main chunk of that, so they’ll probably end up being with one large restaurant and then another commercial retail space all fronting Division. Our second floor is going to be around 19 units of extended stay and We’re calling them those that will be furnished units. They can be rented out for two months at a time or three months at a time, let’s say, to a traveling professor.” – Developer Chris Kennelly on the KYMN Morning Show
Included in the building is 19 extended-stay River Inn suites, which would be available for up to 6 months. There will also be 24 apartment rooms available. For the building residents, there will be a fitness center, community room, underground parking, and decks for some units. Also featured in the building will be a museum about the Archer House.
As part of the Tax Increment Financing (TIF) deal with the City of Northfield, the developers have agreed to add two elements to the project. First, the building will provide public restrooms for downtown. One issue repeatedly noted is that there are no public restrooms that are open downtown, the Archer would now serve to fill the gap. The second portion of the TIF agreement includes public access to the plaza space behind the Archer along the river, and the developers will include enhancements to the riverfront plaza.
Construction is set to begin this spring.
