It’s National Severe Weather Awareness Week and officials are reminding everyone that now is the time to prepare for weather emergencies.
In a statement sent to KYMN, Rice County Emergency Management Director Joe Johnson said: “Minnesota’s weather can change rapidly, and it’s crucial for our residents to be prepared. Severe Weather Awareness Week provides valuable information and practical tips to help everyone stay safe during severe weather.”
Meteorologist Tyler Hasenstein says:
“The main thing is to not only have a plan for your home but know where the storm shelters are at your work, it’s just a good time to practice….Do your tornado drills, do your drills with your family, try to get as prepared as you can for when we do inevitably have severe weather that arrives later in the spring and towards the summer.” – Meteorologist Tyler Hasenstein audio courtesy of the Minnesota News Network

- Monday: Weather Alerts & Warnings
- Tuesday: Severe Thunderstorms, Lightning, & Hail
- Wednesday: Floods & Flash Floods
- Thursday: Tornado Drill Day
- Friday: Extreme Heat
