Downtown Bicycles Set To Expand to Lakeville

By Logan Wells, News Director | Logan@kymnradio.net

The new location of Downtown Bicycles in Lakeville is under construction.

Downtown Bicycles, here in Downtown Northfield, is set to open a second location this year, expanding to Lakeville. Tom Bisel started the business as a sports shop in 2009, but after a few years, he embraced the changes that led the store to become a bike shop. As a person who enjoyed getting outside and being active, he noted that in the Northfield area, it was difficult to find outdoor and sporting equipment. He also stated that he enjoyed the work because of the people:

“You’re not just coming in to buy something from me. A lot of times you’re coming in with a flat tire or a a problem with my bike or a problem with this, and now we get to help people and I think that’s ultimately one of the core values of my business” – Tom Bisel, Owner of Downtown Bicycles

The new location in Lakeville is set to open in the next 60 to 90 days. Bisel said that this has been something he had been thinking about for many years:

“I mean, I think as a small business entrepreneur, you always hope that your business is successful enough that you could grow it. However, that may be, is it growing within your community? Is it growing into another community?” – Tom Bisen, Owner of Downtown Bicycles

Bisel said that many of his reservations about expanding to a second location were related to his ability to manage and be in two locations. However, one of his sons, Josh, was moving home after spending years working in Chicago at a Bike Shop, and the additional support is what allowed for the expansion:

“And I’d never envisioned any of my kids ever wanting to come back and be a part of that. And so when Joshua did, I was like. Ohh wow this is awesome.” – Tom Bisel, Owner of Downtown Bicycles

Downtown Bicycles is open Monday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm and Tuesday & Thursday until 6pm at 321 Division Street in Northfield.
