The Glass Menagerie Closes At The Arts Guild This Weekend

By Logan Wells, News Director | Logan@kymnradio.net

The Glass Menagerie is set to close this weekend at the Northfield Arts Guild theater. The show is a reimagining of a classic story by one of the area’s most innovative directors. The Glass Menagerie is a memory play that has strong autobiographical elements featuring characters based on its author.

Director of the show, Marc Robinson, commented on one of the reasons he thought the show was so impactful:

“And the productions of it have become so iconic, especially the performances of Amanda and Laura, which are two I think of the richest and most difficult roles in American theater.” – Marc Robinson, Director of The Glass Menagerie on ArtZany

The show was first produced in 1944 and when asked on ArtZany why the show has been able to persevere since then, one of the cast members, Maggie Muth, stated that it was about what age you see the show:

“It’s really powerful that you can keep finding new parts of the show to unpack and see things in a new light. And you know your circumstance, the time you’re you’re perceiving this during can change what parts of the show matter more to you.” – Maggie Muth, Actress in The Glass Menagerie on ArtZany

Performing Arts Director with the Arts Guild, Paula Jennings, commented on why this show was different from other editions of the play:

“And this is it’s being reimagined by Mark Robinson. It’s this play is done, maybe overdone, you might say. But when Mark gets a hold of a play, he makes it into something unique and special.” – Pauline Jennings, Performing Arts Director of the Northfield Arts Guild, on the KYMN Morning Show

The show closes this weekend with a show tonight at 7:30pm and the final show tomorrow afternoon at 2pm. You can purchase tickets by going to the Arts Guild website https://ci.ovationtix.com/36853/production/1208425 . Tickets cost $20 for adults, and $16 for students and seniors.
