For the last week and for several more weeks to come, volunteers will be hard at work at the Northfield Ice Arena getting ready for the annual Hospital Auxiliary Book Fair. The fair, helps raise funds for projects at the Northfield Hospital and has successfully raised over $90,000 in past years. What is also incredible about the book fair is that it is completely volunteer-powered. Book Fair organizer, Mark Heiman stated that many volunteers have worked at the book fair for years and even decades:

“And that’s one of the one of the things that makes this operation: We have volunteers who’ve been involved with it for so long. A lot of my job is just delegation and making sure everybody has the things that they need to do to make the work.” – Mark Heimen, Book Fair Organizer on the KYMN Morning Show
He stated that they have volunteers working in many groups this year, including sorting books and other items, carrying books inside, and serving as cashiers.
“there are about 30 different topical sections and we’ve got up one or more people in charge of each of those sections, and then they’re in charge of recruiting volunteers to help them work with whatever they need to do.” – Mark Heiman, Book Fair Organizer on the KYMN Morning Show
He estimated that they have over 300 volunteers as part of the book fair and that this year all the shifts have been filled. However, he noted that their is an interest forum on their website that you can complete.
Book donations remain open until Friday at 5pm. The sale opens in one week at 5pm and goes until Saturday, April 26th.
