At the end of March, the Dundas City Council heard its annual financial audit. The city was given a positive review from the auditors, or an “unmodified opinion,” which is the best opinion they can give. City Administrator Jenelle Teppen stated that she was pleased with the results:

“We are on solid financial ground. We continue to be on solid financial ground with the 2024 Financial Statements.” Jenelle Teppen, Dundas City Administrator on the KYMN Morning Show

The report showed that in total, Dundas collected $1.4 million in revenue; however, expenditures were slightly higher than revenue, leading to a decrease in the city’s fund balance. The fund balance acts as the city’s savings account to cover unexpected costs, and Dundas has a policy of maintaining a fund balance of at least 50% of the expected expenditures for the next year. As of the audit, the city’s fund balance was at 54%. The largest increase in costs was primarily related to Dundas’s contribution to the Northfield Area Fire & Rescue Service (NAFRS) which increased by 2.7% between 2023 and 2024. The auditors also reviewed the city’s utility funds, including water, sewer, refuse, and storm sewer.
