Phase 2 of the Wall Street Road Construction in Northfield began this week. The road will remain closed from 4th Street to Spring Creek Road during this construction.
Detour signs will be posted directing traffic. Eastbound traffic will be routed onto Prairie Street, then onto Woodley to Highway 3, and then out of town on Highway 19. Westbound traffic will be directed onto Kane Avenue, to 100th Street, bringing them into Northfield, before directing them to either Woodley Street or Prairie Street.

This is phase 2 of 4 phases to improve Wall Street Road, which includes reconstructing the entire street and underground utilities, replacing the bridge, installing new sidewalks and trails, and improving pedestrian crossings. All phases of the project are expected to be completed by early September 2025.
In a statement from the City: “The City of Northfield is committed to being forward-thinking by enhancing the quality of city streets for all Northfield residents. The City of Northfield urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones, and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.”
The project is currently being undertaken as a joint project between the City of Northfield and Rice County.
