The Northfield History Center is hosting a reception tonight for its new exhibit featuring Doug “Mr. Puppet” Peterson. The exhibit is a celebration of the work of Peterson, a retired elementary guidance counselor for Northfield Public Schools. Generations of students waited patiently each month for Mr. Peterson, Duso, Jayhawk and the gang to tell stories to their class.
Sean Allen is the Executive Director of the Northfield History Center:
“He had a program that he kind of pioneered here with puppets helping elementary school kids really understand their feelings. Learn how to deal with their feelings with others.” – Sean Allen, Executive Director of the Northfield History Center on the KYMN Morning Show
Allen recalled his own experience as a student with Peterson and his puppets:

“The dolphin would come out once a month or whatever, and come to our classroom, and we just loved it. And so we’re going to do a special kind of exhibit on on him.” – Sean Allen, Executive Director of the Northfield History Center on the KYMN Morning Show
The opening reception tonight will be at 5pm to 7pm and is also an opportunity to meet Peterson. If you can’t attend the reception, the History Center is open Tuesdays-Fridays 10 am to 5 pm, Saturdays 10 am to 4 pm, and Sundays 1 pm to 4 pm. Admission to the museum is $10 for adults and free for History Center members, students, children under 12, Native Americans, and Veterans.
Also on display right now in the museum is the permanent exhibit about Jesse James and his gang’s attempted raid the First National Bank.
