The Dundas Dukes host their home opener this weekend. On Sunday, the Dukes take on the Red Wing Aces in their second game of the season. Last Sunday, Dundas fell to the Cannon Falls Bears 15-8 in the season opener.
The Dukes will be playing at the same ballpark but with a new name, recently approved by the Dundas City Council, to Bill Nelson Field at Memorial Park. The City Administrator of Dundas, Jenelle Teppen, noted Nelson’s legacy as a fundamental part of the Dukes and Dundas:
“Certainly the biggest news in terms of you know the wider community and the support that the Dukes in particular received from Dundas”. – Jenelle Teppen, Dundas City Administrator on the KYMN Morning Show
Nelson worked for decades to improve the ballpark. He also played for the Dukes, helping them go to state three times in his time on the team, and is in the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame.
The Duke’s field is considered one of the nicest ballparks in the state amateur baseball league, undergoing major renovations in 2021 and being featured in the book, Town Ball Parks of Minnesota. Duke’s games are free to attend, though food and drinks are served, and donations are appreciated.
The Dundas Dukes Baseball Club is an amateur baseball team located in Dundas, Minn. The Dukes have won five state championships and have finished runner up eight times.
The Dukes’ home opener is this Sunday at 2pm. As the team would say: “Have Fun. You’re in the Town of Baseball.”
