10 Northfield FFA Students Travel to State Convention; Several Receive Degrees & Awards

By Logan Wells, News Director | Logan@kymnradio.net

In its first year back in Northfield in several decades, Future Farmers of America has had several repeated successes. Last week 10 students from Northfield’s FFA traveled to the state convention held at the University of Minnesota campus, where over 4,000 FFA members in 7th—12th grade gathered to receive degrees and awards. At the state convention, several Northfield students received significant recognition. Students also had the opportunity to participate in Career Development Events and grow their skills.

State Degree Recipients:

Two Northfield FFA students received the State Degree: Keith Harner and Macy Mueller. They were among 451 students from across the entire state the received their degrees. The FFA degree is given nationally to the top members of a state FFA Association, and only 2% of Minnesota FFA members earn the degree. It demonstrates the student has put an exceptional amount of time into their FFA experience and has gone above and beyond in their local chapter and community.

Proficiency Awards:

Mueller placed second in the state in the Poultry Production Proficiency area. Minnesota FFA proficiency awards recognize students who dedicate their time to grow their experience in specified agriculture categories through Supervised Agricultural Experiences (SAEs). Proficiencies help FFA members develop skills that can be used in their future careers.
