Crime is down in Northfield, according to the quarterly report published last week, by the Northfield Police Department. Police Chief Jeff Schroepfer stated that overall crime is down in the city.
“With that said, we have a general downward trend in calls for service over the past two years.” – Jeff Schroepfer, Northfield Police Chief at the 5/5/2025 Northfield City Council Meeting
In the first quarter of this year, there were 196 calls. Schroepfer noted that 37% of crimes in Northfield were “cleared,” which means that the crime ended in an arrest and charges, and when compared to other cities of similar size, Northfield was in the top half of clearances.

higher clearance rate, which says a lot for us, is essentially we’re doing more with less than many other cities in the area.” – Jeff Schroepfer, Northfield Police Chief at the 5/5/2025 Northfield City Council Meeting
One point that Schroepfer noted was that fraud crimes were rapidly increasing. Will cover this story more in-depth in a future newscast.
