Tomorrow is Northfield’s Love Our City Day, an annual event of volunteer work across the community to better the city. The event is a collaboration between several groups, including the city, Northfield faith community, and Northfield Shares. Carrie Carroll, the Executive Director of Northfield Shares, which has been organizing the volunteers, stated that its a time to roll up your sleeves and make Northfield look nice before the summer season.

“Make sure that our town is all like pristine and clean and the flowers are planted and the mulch is clean and the weeds are gone. It’s just a really fun come together, meet new people and clean up our town.” – Carrie Carrol, Executive Director of Northfield Shares on the KYMN Morning Show
Much of the work includes picking weeds, cleaning up mulch planters around the city, as well as planting trees, and preparing the parklets for the summer. Locations of work include:
- Washington & 5th Street
- Spring Creek Park’s Pavilion
- Division Street, between 7th Street & 8th Street
- Bridgesquare & Riverwalk
- 2nd Street Hillside
- Oddfellows Park
Signing up is requested in advance. You can do so on the Northfield Shares website: https://northfieldshares.org/, and then click the “love our community” button in the middle of the home page. From there, you can select the location that you would like to volunteer at. The work goes from 9am to 12pm.
