In Northfield, approximately 130+ youth serve in the Youth on Boards program, where High School students serve on 36 community boards throughout the city, including the Mayor’s Youth Council,, City Boards and Commissions (such as the Economic Development Authority or Planning Commission), and several nonprofit board of directors. Healthy Community Initiatives Youth Engagement Coordinator Martha Lundin, the staff advisor for the group, noted the important role the program serves in hearing youth voices. Here’s Lundin on KYMN in March:
“But I’d love to remind everybody that youth are. Invaluable parts of this community and listening to young people, whether they’re on boards and commissions or not, ensures a healthy and thriving community.” – Martha Lundin, Staff Advisor for the Youth on Boards Program on the KYMN Morning Show
Last week, the graduating seniors were recognized for their service as they move on to their next chapter, receiving a certificate at the last city council meeting. Northfield Mayor Erica Zweifel praised the group for their work and appreciated their service:
“A huge thank you and congratulations to all our youth who step up and take a leadership role in our community. I’ve only been mayor for a few short months and already I see and feel the impact of your work” – Erica Zweifel, Northfield Mayor at the 5/20/2025 City Council Meeting

Northfield Mayor Erica Zweifel presents each Youth on Boards member with a certificate recognizing their work.
