Northfield High School Principal Shane Baier Set To Retire After 30 Years In Education

By Logan Wells, News Director | Logan@kymnradio.net

With the end of the school year, as many students say goodbye, Northfield High School Principal Shane Baier will also be saying goodbye. After 30 years in education, many of those working in school leadership, Baier is set to move on to a new career. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Matt Hillmann praised his work and thanked him for his service:

“And principalship is a hard job, you know day-to-day and Shane has been with us for the last three years. He’s exceptional. When I was talking with people when we were hiring three years ago, that name Shane Baier came up a number of times and experienced principal who had come to us from Mankato. And has just been exceptional, really has done outstanding work.” – Dr. Matt Hillmann, Superintendent of Northfield Schools on the KYMN Morning Show

Hillmann noted that Baier, despite having a long daily commute, always seemed to be at every school event. In particular, he noted how Baier had setup the school for success, establishing systems for the district to follow:

“I really think great leadership at a school level happens when you have the systems in place and the process is in place to make the ship go, and that intersection with the relationships that are needed to make that happen, and there are few who I have met who are better than Shane Baier.” – Dr. Matt Hillmann, Superintendent of Northfield Schools on the KYMN Morning Show

The process of hiring a new principal has been underway since the start of May. According to a statement from the School District, 23 applicants applied. After a series of screening interviews, the district will have in-person interviews. Each candidate will be interviewed by a team of parents, staff members, and students.

We wish Shane Baier the best opportunities in his career going forward.
