ArtZany! Radio for the Imagination! Authors of Marianne the Maker – Kelly Corrigan and Claire Corrigan, 5-30-25

Today in the ArtZany Radio studio Paula Granquist welcomes authors Kelly Corrigan and Claire Corrigan Lichty to celebrate the publication of their new picture book Marianne the Maker. This marvelous story introduces you to a girl with a crackerjack imagination that will inspire readers of all ages to take some time to enjoy your imagination and make a something!

MARIANNE THE MAKER, co-written with Kelly Corrigan’s daughter Claire (a senior in college), is an unstoppable young inventor determined to show the world what she’s really meant to do; Marianne needs time and space to create, not more soccer! At odds with her dad, Marianne pretends to be too sick for practice. When he finds her tinkering with a massive new creation, will he finally understand who she really is?

At the heart of this book is a vital message about making, for children and adults alike. Studies show that unstructured, hands-on play is essential for developing adaptability and resilience. Pulling from the latest research on neuroaesthetics, this delightful and undeniable Case for Making will make clear that regular interaction with the arts is transformative for people at any age. Corrigan’s storytelling expertise brings research to life, and Corrigan Lichty’s tech-arts integration provides modern context, with the mother-daughter dynamic demonstrating the intergenerational impact of making.  https://www.mariannethemaker.com

Claire Corrigan Lichty is a graduate of the University of Virginia with a double major in computer science and drama. She writes code, stories, and jokes for stand-up, which she has performed in small clubs in Bozeman, Montana and downtown Manhattan. She’s been a glue gun kid since she developed fine motor skills and hopes to be a maker indefinitely.
