The Rice County Historical Society is heading back to the 1920s this Saturday with a speakeasy-themed fundraiser. The event runs from 7 to 10pm at the Grand Event Center with swing and jazz music by Maryann & The Moneymakers, cash raffles, games, and a silent auction. Attendees are encouraged to come dressed in their best 1920s costumes for the Speakeasy Costume Contest!
Dave Nichols, the Executive Director of the Rice County Historical Society, noted that the fundraiser was well-received last year, but they want to move to the other half of the county for the fundraiser this year:
“we’re going to be at the grand, so I’m really looking forward to that. It really fits the vibe of a Speakeasy pretty well.” – Dave Nichols, Executive Director of the Rice County Historical Society on the KYMN Morning Show
Nichols said that there were several exciting prizes in the raffle at the fundraiser:
“Frankly, stellar prizes, the ones I’m stoked for, we were able to pull together a Duluth getaway package so the whole weekend in Duluth is completely paid for. We’ve got a quarter of a cow somebody donated.” – Dave Nichols, Executive Director of the Rice County Historical Society on the KYMN Morning Show
Nichols noted that donating to the Historical Society provides programs for many community members:
“We work with all the schools across the entire county. We just had, as of Thursday, we will have had 1000 students through the museum in the last month…Then we do Community presentations all time. We have monthly speakers that come in and talk about different historical topics.” – Dave Nichols, Executive Director of the Rice County Historical Society on the KYMN Morning Show
The fundraiser is Saturday evening. Tickets are $45 for RCHS Members, $50 for Non-Members. You can find the link to purchase tickets on our website in today’s news. The event is for people 18 and up.
