The following statement was released by the Northfield Police Department on Sunday, June 8th:
On Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 6:34 p.m., Northfield Police, Northfield Area Ambulance, and Northfield Area Fire and Rescue responded to a reported vehicle vs. bicycle crash at the intersection of Woodley Street (Hwy 246) and Water Street.
Preliminary investigation indicates that Chufeng Chu, 72, of Northfield, was riding her bicycle southbound on Water Street when she was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound on Woodley Street. The driver of the vehicle, a 56-year-old Northfield resident identified as Christopher Johnson, remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with investigators.

Chu was transported by Northfield Ambulance to Northfield Hospital and later airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center, where she tragically passed away.
The Minnesota State Patrol responded to assist and will be conducting the primary investigation into the crash.
Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Ms. Chu during this difficult time.
