Area farmers, agronomists, and agricultural advisors are invited to attend a cover crop interseeding field day at the Mike and Shane Peterson Farm near Northfield on Thursday, June 12, 2025, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
The event will feature live demonstrations of interseeding cover crops and side-dressing nitrogen using the Rice Soil and Water Conservation District’s (SWCD) no-till drill interseeder. Attendees will also have the opportunity to view interseeding, strip-till, and no-till equipment on display.
Planting cover crops can significantly improve soil biology and moisture retention, leading to more resilient in-season row crop growth. Applying nitrogen fertilizer in a single pass while interseeding helps save time, fuel, and money. Join fellow farmers and conservation professionals to learn practical tips and techniques for successful interseeding.
Directions: From Northfield, travel east on Highway 19 for approximately one mile. Turn north on Canada Avenue and continue about half a mile to the field entrance. Watch for event signs.
This field day is sponsored by the Minnesota Office of Soil Health and Rice SWCD and is part of the University of Minnesota’s Pop-Up Planting Green Field Day Series.
