The opening of the Northfield Old Memorial Swimming Pool is on hold until further notice so pool staff can fix a significant pipe leak. The leak was discovered on Friday, May 30 during the pool’s annual start-up routine. Pool staff are investigating the extent of the leak and actively working on fixing it to open the pool to the public as soon as possible. No issues were found when winterizing the pool at the close of last season.
All early bird pool passes will be honored and everyone who has already purchased an early bird pool pass will receive a discount for next year’s pool pass, depending on the length of the delay. Pool staff have already notified all purchasers who receive text or email updates of the issue.

The opening date for the pool is unknown, but pool staff will notify the public once they have a confirmed timeline for repairs and an expected opening date.
The pool season follows the school summer break, typically opening in early June and closing in mid to late August. Dates are still subject to change.
Outdoor pools in Minnesota typically stay dormant over the winter and reopen when temperatures are consistently around 70°F and no cold snaps could happen. Northfield pool staff follow thorough procedures for the opening and closing of each pool season including inspecting, cleaning, adjusting, and repairing all surfaces, pumps, filters, and electrical and chemical systems. Old Memorial Pool was built in 2007.
